What is a logo (Logotype)

A logo is a symbol or an image representing the name of a company. Often representing a brand or a trademark, a logo is usually designed to present a positive image of the company and to be part of it's marketing strategies and the company. The proper name for a logo is logotype, logotypes go back to the turn of the century, a logotype is a name that is arranged in a specific font type and colours to make it original and different from the rest.

Today, logotypes are called logos and logos are used by millions of businesses around the world. You can find logos almost anywhere, where ever you look you will see one. They are in billboards, vehicles, packaging, print materials such as newspapers, magazines, movie cases and almost any where else you can think of. This is why a logo design should be designed specifically for the company that it represents and should not look similar to other company logos in the same field. A good logo design is unique, easy to read, not subject to confusion by customers and should be effective in reproducing it to smaller and larger sizes.

If a logo is well designed it will not require re-designing in a very long time. The logo will work and be effective to the company that it represents. The logo may become famous and recognised by millions of people around the world. Below are some examples of famous logos.
